What is CAPF?

CAPF stands for Central Armed Police Forces. These are the forces that work under the Ministry of Home Affairs to protect the country from various threats and challenges. There are seven CAPFs in India:

What are the Exam Pattern and Syllabus for the Constable (GD) Post?

The CBE is the first stage of the examination. It is an online objective type test of 100 marks and 90 minutes duration. The test consists of four sections:

  • General Intelligence and Reasoning: 25 questions, 25 marks
  • General Knowledge and General Awareness: 25 questions, 25 marks
  • Elementary Mathematics: 25 questions, 25 marks
  • English/ Hindi: 25 questions, 25 marks

The CBE is conducted in 15 languages, including Hindi, English, and 13 regional languages. The candidates can choose their preferred language while applying online. The syllabus for the CBE covers topics such as:

  • General Intelligence and Reasoning: Analogies, similarities and differences, spatial visualization, spatial orientation, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning and figural classification, arithmetic number series, non-verbal series, coding and decoding, etc.
  • General Knowledge and General Awareness: Current affairs, sports, history, culture, geography, economic scene, general polity, Indian Constitution, scientific research, etc.
  • Elementary Mathematics: Number systems, computation of whole numbers, decimals and fractions, relationship between numbers, fundamental arithmetical operations, percentages, ratio and proportion, averages, interest, profit and loss, discount, mensuration, time and distance, ratio and time, time and work, etc.
  • English/ Hindi: Basic knowledge of the language, vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms, etc.

The candidates who qualify the CBE are called for the PST/ PET/ Medical Examination. The PST/ PET consists of the following:

  • Height: The minimum height required for male candidates is 170 cm, and for female candidates is 157 cm. Relaxation is given for candidates belonging to certain categories and regions as per government rules.
  • Chest: The minimum chest expansion required for male candidates is 80 cm (unexpanded) and 85 cm (expanded). Relaxation is given for candidates belonging to certain categories and regions as per government rules.
  • Weight: The weight of the candidates should be proportionate to their height and age as per medical standards.
  • Race: The male candidates have to run 5 km in 24 minutes, and the female candidates have to run 1.6 km in 8.5 minutes.
  • Other Tests: The candidates have to undergo other tests such as push-ups, sit-ups, long jump, high jump, etc. as per the standards of the respective CAPFs.

The candidates who clear the PST/ PET are called for the Medical Examination. The Medical Examination consists of the following:

  • Eye Sight: The candidates should have a minimum distant vision of 6/6 and 6/9 in both eyes without correction, i.e., without wearing glasses. They should not have colour blindness, squint, or any other defect in their eyes.
  • Other Medical Standards: The candidates should not have any deformity, disease, or disability that may affect their performance in the CAPFs. They should be free from any mental or physical illness.

The candidates who pass the Medical Examination are selected for the Constable (GD) post based on their merit and preference of CAPFs.
