CTET January 2024: Everything You Need to Know About the Central Teacher Eligibility Test

The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) is a national level exam conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to determine the eligibility of candidates for appointment as teachers in classes I to VIII. The CTET is one of the most popular and competitive exams for aspiring teachers in India.

The CBSE has recently announced the exam date and application process for the 18th edition of the CTET, which will be held on January 21, 2024. The CTET January 2024 will be conducted in 20 languages and 135 cities across the country. The online application for the CTET January 2024 has started from November 3, 2023 and will end on November 23, 2023.

If you are planning to appear for the CTET January 2024, here are some important details that you should know.

CTET January 2024 Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for the CTET January 2024 vary according to the paper and the level of teaching. The CTET consists of two papers: Paper I for classes I to V and Paper II for classes VI to VIII. A candidate can apply for either one or both papers, depending on their qualification and preference.

The minimum educational qualification for Paper I is:

  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education; or
  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education, in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure), Regulations, 2002; or
  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed); or
  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education); or
  • Graduation and passed or appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.

The minimum educational qualification for Paper II is:

  • Graduation and passed or appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education; or
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed); or
  • Graduation with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in the 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed), in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations issued from time to time in this regard; or
  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed); or
  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 4-year B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed; or
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education).

The relaxation of 5% in the qualifying marks for the reserved categories such as SC/ST/OBC/PwD is applicable as per the government norms.

CTET January 2024 Application Process

The application process for the CTET January 2024 is completely online and can be done through the official website of the CTET . The steps to apply online are as follows:

  • Visit the official website of the CTET  and click on the link “Apply for CTET-Jan2024”.
  • Register yourself by providing your personal details such as name, date of birth, gender, category, etc. and generate your application number and password.
  • Login with your application number and password and fill the online application form with your academic details, choice of paper, language, exam center, etc.
  • Upload your scanned images of photograph and signature as per the prescribed specifications.
  • Pay the examination fee through online mode using debit card/credit card/net banking/UPI/e-wallet. The fee for general/OBC category candidates is Rs. 1000 for one paper and Rs. 1200 for both papers. The fee for SC/ST/PwD category candidates is Rs. 500 for one paper and Rs. 600 for both papers.
  • Print the confirmation page and keep it for future reference.

The candidates are advised to check the eligibility criteria, instructions, and guidelines before applying for the CTET January 2024. The candidates can also correct any mistakes in their online application form from November 24 to November 28, 2023.

CTET January 2024 Exam Pattern and Syllabus

The CTET January 2024 will be conducted in offline mode as a pen-and-paper based test. The duration of each paper is 2 hours and 30 minutes. The paper will consist of 150 multiple-choice questions, each carrying one mark. There will be no negative marking for wrong answers.

The syllabus for Paper II covers the topics related to child development and learning, principles of teaching and learning, language comprehension and pedagogy, mathematics content and pedagogy, science content and pedagogy, and social studies/social science content and pedagogy.

The candidates can choose any one of the 20 languages as their medium of instruction for the CTET January 2024. The languages are: English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Garo, Gujarati, Kannada, Khasi, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Mizo, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, Tibetan, and Urdu.

The candidates can also download the previous year question papers and sample papers from the official website of the CTET  to get an idea of the difficulty level and type of questions asked in the exam.

CTET January 2024 Admit Card and Result

The admit card for the CTET January 2024 will be available for download from the official website of the CTET  in the first week of January 2024. The candidates will have to enter their application number and date of birth to download their admit card. The admit card will contain the details of the candidate, exam center, date, and time of the exam. The candidates will have to carry their admit card along with a valid photo ID proof to the exam center. No candidate will be allowed to enter the exam hall without the admit card.

The result of the CTET January 2024 will be declared by the CBSE within six weeks from the date of the exam. The candidates will be able to check their result and download their scorecard from the official website of the CTET  by entering their roll number and date of birth. The candidates who score 60% or more marks in the CTET will be considered as qualified and will be issued a CTET certificate. The CTET certificate will be valid for seven years from the date of declaration of the result.
