Colin Kaepernick had a chance to show what he left behind in arms, legs and other football intangible assets almost two months ago.
The Las Vegas Raiders gave the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback, who formerly guided the team to the NFC championship in 2013, the opportunity to demonstrate what’s still hidden inside of him after being out of the league since 2016. Black is the final NFL team to grant him a tryout.
According to ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, Kaepernick’s arm strength and conditioning were two aspects of his workout that stood out. Derek Carr, the Raiders’ franchise quarterback, agreed that Kaepernick would be a good fit inside the Raiders’ facility.
However, one NFL Hall of Famer who used to play for the Raiders was told otherwise.
Warren Sapp’s Opinion
The NFL Hall of Fame defensive tackle — who became one of the league’s most dominant pass rushers with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Oakland Raiders, as well as one of the league’s most outspoken personalities — claimed he had information on how “Kap’s” workout actually went.
“From what I’ve heard, it was a disaster,” Sapp said on Vlad TV. “I heard one of the worst workouts I’ve ever heard.”
Sapp continued his criticism, questioning why footage of the former 49er was not made public.
It’s unclear who provided Sapp with this information, especially since only a few Raiders were present on the day of Kaepernick’s workout. Among the more prominent Raider names watching the former 49er throw and run were general manager Dave Ziegler and head coach Josh McDaniels.
Sapp was a well-respected veteran and likable teammate for the Raiders during their four seasons in Oakland. Sapp, on the other hand, never worked with both Ziegler and McDaniels during his 13-year career. Perhaps a former Raider Sapp is connected who saw the workout could have provided some nuggets to the Hall of Famer.
Also in the News: 49ers Free Agent Sapp isn’t the only one who hasn’t said anything positive about Kaepernick.
Even an unsigned free agent cornerback for the 49ers questioned Kaepernick’s desire to play in the league.
Josh Norman also appeared on Vlad TV and made the following statement about Kaepernick: “You can’t sue a company and then try to work for them again.” This is because Kaepernick won a collusion case against the league in 2019.
Kaepernick remains unsigned despite the workout. However, on June 10, NFL insider Josina Anderson of CBS Sports HQ reported that Kaepernick’s future as a Raider “is not necessarily off the table.”
