Ellen DeGeneres, Taryn Manning, Ed Helms, Anne's son Homer Laffoon, and others react to Anne Heche's death at the age of 53.

Anne Heche, the Emmy-winning actress who rose to prominence in the 1990s with roles in films such as "Six Days Seven Nights"

and "Donnie Brasco," died on Friday, Aug. 12, of injuries sustained in a car accident.

She was 53 years old. Her death was not unexpected,

as the actress's representative had previously stated that Anne was not expected to live.

TMZ reported that Anne was "brain dead," noting that this is the definition of death under California law

but that machines were keeping Anne's heart beating in order to preserve her organs for donation.
