Tom Brady is taking a leave of absence from football to deal with "personal matters."

Head coach Todd Bowles announced Thursday at a press conference that Tom Brady has taken a leave

"Tom was excused today. He'll be taking a break — he'll be back somewhere after Tennessee.

"He's going to deal with some personal issues," Bowles told NBC Sports.

"This was something we discussed before training camp started. "We allotted this time because he wanted to get in

and get chemistry with the guys, as well as go through two weeks of training camp knowing he wasn't going to play the first two games

"He didn't want to deprive Blaine [Gabbert] and Kyle [Trask] of reps, as well as 'Griff' [Ryan Griffin], going into these next two games."
